Flying on One Engine just won the 2009 Best of Scene: Brooklyn Award presented by the Brooklyn Arts Council. Thanks for everyone at BAC for their support. It really was a lovely event held at the Galapagos in DUMBO. While the rain might have kept the casual filmgoer away, the place was filled with real cinephiles. Also I think the film was mentioned in two different issues of the Brooklyn Eagle this month. Thanks everyone for your continued support. April 20, 2009 FLYING ON ONE ENGINE premiered in March 2008 at the South by South West Film Festival, now after playing dozens of festivals, TV appearances, and winning awards the plane is still gliding through the air. Make sure to tell you friends to see FOOE while they still have the chance.

November 28, 2008 It is disturbing that Wednesday the day I left the Netherlands is the same day that terrorists attacked Mumbai. It is disconcerting that while I was celebrating freedom and tolerance with my fellow Americans during the Thanksgiving Holiday, that innocent people were held hostage by hatemongers. I am so thankful that this massacre is almost over with and that the people of India have begun to move forward with their lives.
Sometimes art has meanings that are only expressed over time, and that many themes are not immediately recognizable. When making Flying On One Engine, I was interested in an individual who was consumed by being successful. The fact that Dr. Dicksheet is an American Indian who has donated most of his life to helping all people including Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Jains, woman, and children is a testament to the greatness of humanity. As long as there are people who put charity before themselves the world will always be a place worth defending.
August 31, 2008 First I want to thank everyone for an amazing screening last Friday at Rooftop Films! We were beside ourselves with excitement. It was wonderful to see all our family, friends, and crew spend a relaxing evening under an NYC night sky. It was even better that so many of youdonated money and we raised $800 for Dr. Dicksheet's India Project. Also thanks to Christine Hochkeppel for her photography of the event and Lilah Montgomery for her screen printed posters. There are a couple posters left if anyone is interested.
On to more notes, the film is going to start playing all over the world soon: Seattle South Asian Film Festival September 25th Festival do Rio, Brazil September 25 - October 9th Woodstock Film Festival October 4 - 5 Reading, Pa October 2 - 5 Also the first TV broadcasts of the film will be on RTL-Germany and Swedish Educational Broadcasting.
June 14, 2008 So right now I am procrastinating. And just for your information, I spelt procrastinating wrong in the last sentence and spell check told me how to spell it correctly. Even though most of you thought the film was done?it is not. But at the end of the month it will really be finished. And then I can move on with my life, which I am already starting to do, but this is a more official sort of thing. Anyway I just got the final musical score to lay into the film and instead of being so excited to drop in the music I am procrastinating (spell check just corrected the spelling of this word again). Just so every knows we will be having more film festivals, screenings, and TV broadcasts in the near future. Especially a screening in NYC before the summer ends. Hope to see all your smiling faces sooner, than later! And how exciting is the Obama nomination!?!
April 15, 2008 Dr. Dicksheet is sick and in the hospital recovering from complications to his aneurism operations. Your prayers and good thoughts would be appreciated. If you have messages for the doctor, please email me them to me. I would be happy to deliver them in person to him when I visit next week (currently I am working in Israel). Also I want everyone to know that Dr. Dicksheet is an extremely amazing philanthropist who has given his life to helping others. So please understand when reading short reviews that they just mention parts in the film that can grab headlines. The dedication that Dicksheet has shown to performing free surgery?s for children in India can never be praised enough. If you would like to make a donation to his charity you can do so by mailing checks below: Dr Sharadkumar Dicksheet MD Fund Inc 135 Ocean Parkway, 17-C, Brooklyn, New York 11218, USA Tax ID: EIN-13-3689329IRS501-C3 drdicksheet.com <3 Joshua
April 08, 2008 Just got back from Full Frame and it was amazing!!! Really one of the best screenings we have had and over 900 tickets sold! Below is a review by AJ Schnack, a contributor to Indiewire:
Filmmakers could also learn a lot of lessons fromJoshua Z Weinstein's debut film, FLYING ON ONEENGINE. In a speedy 52 minutes, Weinstein introduces us to an amazing character - Dr. Dicksheet, a Brooklyn-based plastic surgeon who annually flies to India to perform reconstructive facial surgery on children born with cleft
March 25, 2008 The reviews are in! "4 out of 5 stars" -Matthew Odam, Austin American Statesman "Flying On One Engine is teeming with life, capturing raw, intimate moments soaked through with humor and surprise" - Janet Pierson, SXSW Programmer "It's the whimsical moments and the deeply personal ones where Weinstein shines." -Pamela Cohn, Still in Motion "A touching yet charming and unsentimental doc about a cosmetic surgeon (last name Dicksheet--dare you not to laugh)."- Dan Nuxoll, Rooftop films
